Self Compassion for Black Coffee Drinkers

The Training MindWhere the work begins and the thinking gets messy

Intro

I used to think self-compassion was for people who drank decaf. People who chant positive affirmations, listen to mellow music, and always said Have A Nice Day.

I was wrong.

This section is where I question the assumptions that I made over the course of 45 years of running and competing. It’s not a catalog of anything profound - it’s a timeline. A paper trail of trying to understand how to strive without breaking, how to continue without losing yourself, how to be intense without self-flagellation.

Some of these articles were written while I was kidding myself. Some after. The articles here are a part of a process where I write to get where I am.

If you’ve ever felt the fire that got you going and then had to deal with trying to put it out, some of these articles may offer a perspective.
